New Rainbow Disney Collection for Pride Month 2020

This year for Pride Month (June), Disney has released a brand new series of items and merchandise as part of their Rainbow Disney Collection 2020.

Before we get into the new collection and merch for this celebration, let’s take a moment to step back.

I’d like to do a quick explanation of what Pride Month is, what it’s all about, and why rainbow items are so important at this time of the year.

This will also give us some history and context on Disney’s wonderful support of the gay community.

What Is Pride Month?

Every year, the LGBTQ+ community celebrates Pride Month in the month of June.

This is an occasion to celebrate inclusivity, diversity, and the vibrant power of acceptance, especially as it pertains to people within the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer spectrum.

Disney has voiced their support for the gay community for many, many years.

In fact, Disney Parks has Gay Days each year to give members of the queer community the keys to the magical kingdom in a way.

According to Wikipedia, “The first documented event, in June 1991, had 3,000 gays and lesbians from central Florida going to area theme parks on one day wearing red shirts to make their presence more visible. By 1995, the event had grown to 10,000 gays and lesbians traveling for the gay day at Disney.”

At this point, the event is a huge celebration of the queer world and the LGBTQ+ community at the Mouse House.
