A brand new rumor has surfaced online that Disney will soon hit the reset button on Star Wars. The source claims this will effectively erase the sequels, including The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker from the Lucasfilm canon.

Here’s everything we know so far.

Where Is the Rumor Coming From?

This new Star War rumor surfaced recently on the Overlord DVD channel on YouTube.

This user suggests that a major conflict is going on within Lucasfilm and Star Wars, namely between director Jon Favreau and producer Kathleen Kennedy.

According to Cosmic Book News, this is the status of the individual at work within the Star Wars rumor mill at the moment:

Doomock also previously provided those Skywalker spoilers, and prior to Marvel Studios announcing a new director and writing team on the Captain Marvel sequel, said there were all kinds of problems at Marvel with Brie Larson and Captain Marvel (interestingly enough, Feige is now going with Elizabeth Olsen and Scarlet Witch).

So, that’s the source of the rumor itself.

Now let’s get into the actual rumor and see what it all means for the Star Wars films and franchise.

Is Disney Erasing the Star Wars Sequel Films?

Before we get too far into it, it’s very important to note that this rumor has not been confirmed or substantiated to this point.

The idea is that Disney and Lucasfilm would “retcon” the franchise and the timeline.

What does retcon mean? Retcon stands for retroactive continuity. It means that filmmakers or writers try to “reinterpret” existing material through a different lens. They do this by introducing new story details in later movies, episodes, or books.

There’s no real evidence that the suggestion is true right now.

All we really have is the source’s track record with their Star Wars and Marvel spoilers and rumored news in the past.

What does the rumor actually say?

Below is the full video of the rumor about Disney erasing the Star Wars films and resetting the franchise.

It’s an interesting watch to say the least.

First, if you’re not familiar with this YouTuber, it’s worthwhile to warn you that it’s not meant for children.

Secondly, note that the user does not reveal their identity throughout.

The movies in question are the ones made by JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson, the Star Wars sequels under Kathleen Kennedy.

If you don’t want to watch the whole thing, here is a selected quote from the video, transcribed by Cosmic Book News:

In the Season 4 episode 13 installment titled ‘A World Between Worlds,’ the concept of the Veil of The Force was introduced, a mystical dimension of The Force that connects all time and space. I have received confirmation from two additional sources claiming that this is spot on — that indeed LucasFilm realizes they have a massive problem on their hands, that the Star Wars franchise is all but dead, and despite Kathleen Kennedy’s hatred of this idea, Lucasfilm is preparing to render the Sequel Trilogy null and void.

The video goes on to describe generally how this might happen.

This includes rumored explanations about Rey in the mirrored room of Emperor Palpatine from The Rise of Skywalker, as well as an illustration (see below) of the “Veil of the Force”.

What Does It All Mean for Star Wars?

The YouTuber that offers this set of rumors certainly has an agenda, which may be part of their motivation.

Namely, they don’t like the Star Wars sequels and would like for them to be erased and for Lucasfilm and Disney to apologize for their existence.

If you are a regular here, you know that I personally love Star Wars, and that includes the sequels. So I have trouble sympathizing with this individual on that front.

As far as the validity of the rumors goes, it’s really hard to make any kind of claim on that at all at this point.

Finally, if this does happen, it would basically mean using a sort of time travel type method of removing the timeline of the Star Wars sequel movies. This sort of reminds me of the way the later Marvel Avengers movies made use of time travel for their own purposes.

Whether or not any of this happens…well, we just don’t know yet.
