What Did Disneyland Email to Legacy Passholders?

On August 2, 2021, Disneyland sent out an email to Legacy Passholders letting them know that something BIG is coming soon.

In fact, they even tell us the name of the new surprise: Magic Key. At the time, we didn’t know for sure that this was going to be an Annual Pass type of program, but it seemed HIGHLY likely that would have some of the same features.

Well, now we know for sure!

In other words, even if we don’t know much else about the program (yet!), the new email does give us some details without saying too much.

  1. The email was sent to Legacy Passholders. This implies at least some amount of correlation with the Annual Pass program from Disneyland in the before times.
  2. The name Magic Key seems to suggest something similar to the Disney Stores, where you would get a sort of magical green key if you were the one to open the store in the morning.
  3. With the world starting to open back up a bit, the timing of the message gives us reason to believe that a new AP program (or something like it!) will be coming very, very soon…

Those are speculation, of course. We will know much more on August 3, 2021.

How do we know that? Because the Mouse House told us so!

What Is the Disneyland Magic Key Program? Annual Pass Details, Pricing, Reservations, and More!

On August 3rd, 2021, Disney announced a brand-new, all-new, super-new, AMAZING update to the Annual Passholder program at Disneyland and California Adventure theme parks: The Magic Key!

Important Note: Not only does the new Magic Key pass replace the older AP system, it also officially “sunsets” the Legacy Passholder program that’s been in place during a good chunk of the global health crisis.

Now, what exactly is this new Magic Key system, how does it work, and importantly, how much does it all cost?

Here are the answers to all your super important Magic Key questions!

Magic Key Pass Tiers and Pricing

First, let’s talk about the Magic Key Annual Pass tiers and pricing for each one of the levels. If you’ve been an AP before, then this will be super familiar to you (with one new, and very important, added detail).

Thankfully, Annual Passes are back! But what are the tiers and how much do the new Magic Key tiers cost?

What are the Magic Key tiers? There are 4 Magic Key Annual Pass tiers: Imagine Key, Enchant Key, Believe Key, and the Dream Key. Each plan has its own features and benefits, including discounts on merchandise and food, parking, reservation holds, and more.

What do the Magic Key tiers cost? The 4 new Magic Key Annual Passholder tiers cost $399 for Imagine Key, $649 for Enchant Key, $949 for Believe Key, and $1399 for the Dream Key.

When can I get my Magic Key Annual Pass? Sales for the new Magic Key passes go live on August 25, 2021.

In other words, we only have to wait until August 25th to get our Magic Key tickets, book our reservations, and hit the parks! 🙂

As with previous versions of the Disneyland Annual Passholder program, you can pay for each one of these tiers monthly (some plans depend on whether you live in California and/or Southern California).

Step 1: Access Calendar

Check the Magic Key access calendar, which shows admission and blockout dates and current park reservation availability.

Step 2: Make a Reservation

Be sure to sign in to your existing Disney account—or create a new one—via Disneyland.com. If you haven’t done so already, link your Magic Key ID—the 18 digit number you receive upon purchase. Then, visit Park Reservations to start the theme park reservation process.

Select the date and theme park that you wish to visit from the available theme park reservations. You can make reservations for one park only or both parks, pending availability.

Magic Key holders, choosing both parks, can select which theme park to start their day at and may cross over and switch between parks on the same day beginning at 1:00 PM, subject to capacity.

Step 3: Review and Confirm Your Visit

Review your theme park reservation and agree to the Terms & Conditions, including the COVID-19 liability waiver, and select “Confirm” to complete your park reservation.

Provide an email address to receive your reservation confirmation. In addition, check your email account to ensure you’ve received your confirmation.

Please be prepared to present your Magic Key pass in the Disneyland app when you arrive on the day of your visit.
