The Star Wars universe is vast, everybody knows that. Any fan of the galaxy far, far away has an enormous lexicon full of characters, creatures, worlds, food, and more. But one of the funnier bits of Star Wars trivia actually has to do with some of the music played in the galactic bars. Specifically, we’re talking about the playing of jazz in the Star Wars universe, such as in the famous Mos Eisley Cantina (or Oga’s Cantina at Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland). So, what is jazz called in Star Wars? It’s called “jizz.” Yes, “jizz.”

What Is Jazz Called in Star Wars? Jizz.

There’s something that many people — even diehard fans — of the Star Wars universe might not know…

It has to do with the music in the world itself, a particular brand of jazz.

So…

What is jazz called in Star Wars? “Jizz.”

According to Wookieepedia, “Jizz was an upbeat, swinging genre of music.”

The website goes on:

…most notably performed by Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes and the Max Rebo Band. Other notable jizz bands included Bobolo Baker’s All-Bith Band, Evar Orbus and His Galactic Jizz-Wailers, Hutt, Figrin D’an II and the New Modal Nodes, and The Sozzenels.”

Wookieepedia

Pretty wild, right?

In fact, the page goes on to say:

The Return of the Jedi novelization introduced the term “jizz-wailer” to describe a musician, but the term “jizz” as the name of the musical style was not introduced until the publication of Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina, twelve years later.

Wookieepedia

If you’re curious, yes, you can still get a copy of Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina. Highly recommended for true “jizz” fans and aficionados, of course.

In case you’re not familiar, “A jizz-wailer was a musician who specialized in playing jizz songs.”

If you’re not already a fan of Wookieepedia, it’s a hugely helpful resource for Star Wars trivia and history.

(The website’s name is obviously a play on Wikipedia and Wookiee, aka Chewbacca and his clan.)

Jizz Instruments & Bands in Star Wars

Not only that…

But the “jizz” (jazz) world within Star Wars has its own wide array and assortment of instruments used, also provided by Wookieepedia:

  • Bass Viol
  • Bandfill
  • Clak Beepbox
  • Dorenian Beshniquel
  • Fanfar
  • Gasan string drum
  • Jizz
  • Jizz-box
  • Kloo horn
  • Mood synthesizer
  • Nalargon
  • Ommni box
  • Peel rod
  • Ploong sounder
  • Slitherhorn (traz)

My personal favorite has to be either the Dorenian Beshniquel, the mood synthesizer, or maybe the Ploong sounder.

Although I must admit that the Slitherhorn (traz) is a classic “jizz” instrument.

Anybody who knows their “jizz” knows that!

Naturally, there are a few well-known “jizz bands” in Star Wars, including Evar Orbus and His Galactic Jizz-Wailers, as well as the Max Rebo Band.

Jizz Music and Scenes in Star Wars
