The rumors of the adaptation are not rumors anymore.

This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for!

Let’s unfold the details together.

The Riordans’ Twitter Announcement

The news was announced by none other than the series author himself, Rick Riordan, together with his wife, Becky.

Along with that video came the following photo:

Exciting, isn’t it?

By the way, here’s how you can watch Disney Plus on your TV.

A Short Background on the Percy Jackson Series

For those who aren’t familiar, Percy Jackson & The Olympians is a young adult fantasy series.

It’s comprised of five books, namely:

  1. The Lightning Thief
  2. The Sea of Monsters
  3. The Titan’s Curse
  4. The Battle of the Labyrinth
  5. The Last Olympian

The Greek mythology-infused series centers around the young demigod, Perseus “Percy” Jackson.

The series begins with his discovery that although his mother is a human, he has a Greek god for a father.

In case you didn’t know, that Greek god is Poseidon, the god of the sea, earthquakes, storms, and horses.

You may have been familiar with the movie adaptations of the first two books by 20th Century Fox.

Unfortunately, many fans considered those a flop, as they deviated significantly from the books.

Even Rick Riordan wasn’t a fan of the first movie!

As a result, he expressed his side through his website.

He did so by publishing extracts from the two emails he sent to the movie’s producers in 2009.

A part of them reads:

At least now with Percy Jackson on Disney Plus, Riordan’s opinions will be heard!

What We’re Expecting and Hoping For

Since Rick and Becky promised they would be heavily involved, we’re expecting the series to be faithful to the books.

If you remember, two of the major issues of Riordan with the films were the age of the characters and the use of vulgar language.

Percy was 12 in the books, but the films opted for a 17-year-old Percy.

Having said that, we’re not expecting the cast from the film adaptations to be involved in the Disney Plus series.

The use of vulgar language was easy to fix for Disney as well since their streaming service is designed for a younger audience.

There isn’t much information about the live-action adaptation on Disney Plus, but Riordan might have already hinted that it would have five seasons.

That means there’s a season for every book, beginning with the first one.

Moreover, if the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series becomes a hit, we might even get the live-action series of its sequel!

The sequel, entitled The Heroes of Olympus, includes five books as well:

  1. The Lost Hero
  2. The Son of Neptune
  3. The Mark of Athena
  4. The House of Hades
  5. The Blood of Olympus

Honestly, other books from Riordan would be great for a live-action series too!

As long as the adaptation respects the original stories, I think it will be well received.

In the end, Riordan being tapped to help develop more live-action series is just speculation at this point, as is some of what we know so far.

In Summary

Fans can’t stop talking about this Percy Jackson Live-Action Series on Disney Plus!

To be honest, no one has an idea when the series will be available on Disney+ or what that will look like with any specifics or casting.

The first season could debut in the next one or two years, which is incredibly exciting for Percy fans all over the world.

But here’s one thing for sure: I can’t wait for more detailed information on this. When that happens, you can be sure to find it right here.

In the meantime, find out if you qualify to get Disney+ for free.
