There always seems to be another way to connect Disney fans with another aspect of our lives, and It’s a Dog’s Life with Bill Farmer on Disney+ does exactly that: with our lovable canine companions, dogs.
The following is a short, quick review of the first 2 episodes of this heartwarming and entertaining show on Disney Plus.
Here’s how IMDb puts it:
Bill Farmer, the voice actor of Goofy and Pluto, tells the stories of working dogs across the United States while educating viewers on responsible pet care.
IMDb
Who Is Bill Farmer?
If you’re not familiar with his name or his face, you definitely know his voice.
Bill Farmer is a Disney animation and voiceover legend.
As the iconic voice of Mickey Mouse’s friend Goofy, you’ve almost certainly heard Bill Farmer’s acting on screen.
But that’s not all! Bill has also voiced a very special Disney dog…
You guessed it: Pluto!
With that kind of pedigree, it’s no wonder that Disney Plus picked Mr. Farmer to be the voice (and the face!) of this new show on the streaming platform.
It also helps that Bill absolutely loves dogs!
He appears to have truly never met one that didn’t become his new best friend and furry puppy companion.
It’s a Dog’s Life with Bill Farmer: Episode 1
Episode 1 of It’s a Dog’s Life with Bill Farmer covers two main stories, interspersed with doggy care and puppy love help from Bill himself.
This appears to be the theme for each episode: 2 big stories that take Bill Farmer around the world to meet amazing dogs doing wonderful, magical things with their canine lives, along with a little tidbit or two on how you can be the best friend to these wonderful animals.
The first episode title is “Whale Poop Dogs and Sheep Herding Dogs”.
That is exactly what we get, too!
First, we get to follow Bill Farmer on the sea, as he meets a special dog trained to sniff out whale poop for scientists.
Then, we see him meet another pack of dogs that gets trained to herd sheep on farms and ranches at the toot-toot of a whistle.
Both of these stories is remarkable in its own right, getting to watch these incredible animals do what looks like truly magical work.
And Bill is just the best host ever for this show. My wife and I keep saying to each other, “He just seems like the sweetest man ever!”
Give this show one minute of your time, and I think you’ll agree right away.
It’s a Dog’s Life with Bill Farmer: Episode 2
In the second episode of this dog show, Bill meets two very interesting canines indeed.
The title of this episode is “Dogs & Cheetahs & Companion Dogs”. Yes, cheetahs! There are actually dogs that work with cheetahs.
First, Farmer meets a pretty incredible pup or two that literally spends all their time with a cheetah.
As you may know, cheetahs are one of the fastest animals on the planet, capable of reaching 70MPH on the savannah!
Bill gets to watch these majestic cats play with their best friend, a dog. Far from the dog and cat animosity we often see on screens, these animals absolutely love each other. It’s precious and adorable from start to finish.
Finally, Mr. Farmer meets a companion dog for a boy that has difficulty with certain everyday tasks. His sweet dog helps him pick things up off the floor, do his laundry, and even turn on and off his lights when it’s time to go to bed.
What’s more, this particular young man wants to be a voiceover actor, just like Bill!
Naturally, Bill helps him with his voice acting skills in a real live recording studio booth. It’s a wonderful thing to watch, and the boy turns out to be very good at it. With a little help from Goofy himself, he’ll be on his way to stardom in no time! 🙂
Summary of It’s a Dog’s Life Episodes 1 & 2
In case you can’t tell already, I really love this show.
As a lifelong dog lover (and current Cat Dad), animals and pets have always brought me so much happiness and joy. I truly wouldn’t know what to do without our two sweet cats we have now.
This particular show does a great job of bringing out that particular pleasure with Bill’s expert guidance.
He’s like having your own Disney grandfather (and Goofy legend) lead you around and show you sweet puppers with remarkable skills.
