How Many Strands of Hair Did the Animators Give Elsa in Frozen?
After the sequel, Frozen II, came out my wife and I went to the bookstore and picked up a copy of The Art of Disney: Frozen II.
It’s packed chockfull of amazing photos, illustrations, animations, interviews, behind the scenes info, and so much more.
Whether your favorite is Anna and Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven, or any of the other amazing characters, there’s literally something for everyone that’s a fan of the Frozen movies and franchise.
We were floored by the amount of love, care, and dedication that goes into making the Disney movies.
So, that being said, the first thing you should know is that the Frozen and Frozen 2 Disney movies are painstakingly crafted, designed, and animated.
As you can see in the New Frozen 2 Documentary Series on Disney+, there’s no detail that is left to chance.
Everything little thing requires the incredible attention to detail and creativity that Walt Disney Animation has been known for since the very beginning!
One of the coolest and most interesting details revealed so far is the number of strands of hair that the animators gave to Elsa. It’s a wild number, and you’re never going to believe it!
How many strands of hair did the animators give Elsa? 400,000 strands of hair!
Can you believe that?!
As you can see in the above graphic, Rapunzel had a whopping 27,000 strands of hair in her movie, Tangled.
But, Elsa had many, many more than that number!
Here’s another fun fact…
What crash course did Disney animators have to take when making Frozen? They were required to take a meteorology course, to learn all about snow and the making of snow crystals. They learned all about snow from the expert himself, Cal Tech’s Dr. Ken Libbrecht (or “Dr. Snow”).
What do you think about this crazy stat? Elsa has 400,000 individual strands of hair in the Frozen movies.
