Disney’s upcoming animated film Raya and the Last Dragon is scheduled for release in theaters on March 5, 2021. But that’s not all. That same day, it will also be available on Disney Plus as a Premier Access movie. So far, here are the things we know about it…
Disney’s Announcement on Raya and the Last Dragon
Disney took everyone’s breath away with the heart-pounding, edge-of-your-seat announcements they made during the Walt Disney Company Investor Day 2020.
Of course, one piece of great news is related to Raya. She is a brave warrior in the quest to find the last dragon in Kumandra.
Raya and the Last Dragon, the 59th film in the Disney Animation canon, will hit theaters on March 5, 2021, the same day it becomes available as a Premier Access movie.
The animated film was initially scheduled for release on November 25, 2020. However, the global health crisis pushed it back to March 12, 2021. Disney later announced that the premiere would be advanced one week, changing it to March 5.

For those who missed it, Premier Access is a purchase option available to Disney Plus subscribers.
How Much Will It Cost on Disney Plus?
The studio didn’t mention any price for the Premier Access film, but it will most likely cost $29.99. It’s the same fee Disney charged for Mulan when it shifted to Premier Access on the streaming service.
In other words, the $29.99 fee might apply to future Premier Access films as well, unless Disney announces otherwise.
Why Disney Plus Had to Make This Move
Before the existence of Disney Plus, the Mouse House had to bring people to theaters or release films as straight-to-video titles. Some say the latter was not a great option.
Fortunately, new movies can now be released on Disney Plus, giving subscribers more options and more films to watch.
On one hand, there are still hundreds of Disney-owned movies and TV shows missing from the streaming service.
On the other hand, Disney’s CEO Bob Chapek said the company saw sufficient performance to justify continuing the release strategy. In fact, they plan to release more films through Disney Plus in the future. That being said, the future looks bright!
Have a magical day!
